Readers' Spotlight: Deck the Halls!

The holiday season often brings out the crafty & creative in folks, proving once again that it is the simple joys that make life worthwhile. In that spirit, I'd like to share with you this imaginative wall hanging submitted by reader CINDY ABELL OF ASHLAND, VIRGINIA:

I would have never thought to include peacock feathers and they certainly punch things up and give this Yuletide furbelow that extra WOW! factor. But what Shoestring Sally loves best of all is how Cindy used primarily found materials to make it:

"Pheasant feathers as well as all natural greenery. The base is magnolia leaves and then pine and holly and anything I saw walking in the woods that I thought would look nice."

A McCall bird...the most beautiful blue, indeed.
Cindy also shared a great tip about finding feathers, outside of paying for them at a craft store: she got the pheasant feathers on a trip to a farm years ago. The birds had molted, leaving feathers strewn about for the taking. Another wonderful source of free plumage for Cindy is her brother's McCall bird, who periodically sheds feathers of "the most beautiful blue".
