Style is Attitude: Cass Elliot

I've been meaning to repost this tribute to Cass Elliot that I made on my Polyvore site. Long before Mother Monster, there was Mama Cass. She was unconventional, stood for the outcasts and the upstarts hungry to buck the system, and she refused to do what so many overweight women are expected to do: be quiet and disappear into the wallpaper. I mean, look at her sprawled on those pillows like the Queen of Sheba! Fierce. Courageous. Loud and proud. Even at my highest weight I was much smaller than her --but my self-esteem was much smaller too. That is some fierce for thought.

"When Cass was a sophomore, planned to go to Swarthmore, but she changed her mind one day..."
~from the song Creeque Alley by The Mamas and the Papas
